Adelaide is one of Australia’s top towns to visit, with plenty of beauty, charm and a rolling events calendar that puts them on the map as one of the world’s great cultural centres.

Adelaide City

Whilst the city of Adelaide itself is an incredible place to check out, the day trips from the city centre make it an awesome jumping point for some of Australia’s truly remarkable destinations!

So, what are some of the unforgettable adventures that spring from the city of Adelaide? And why is a day trip to any one of them sure to be filled with fun, beauty and inspiration?

Let’s find out below…

The Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s gourmet wonderland, producing some of the country’s (and the world’s) very best Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay and Riesling. A trip out to the Barossa is the epitome of entering a connoisseur’s paradise, where fine wine accompanies top produce to create a cornucopia of tantalising, tipsy times.

The best way to explore the Barossa? Via cellar door hop, of course! The region is home to the likes of Peter Lehmann, Seppelt and Yalumba, with each producer renowned for their fine vintages and elegant cellar doors.

Once you’ve sampled the cellar doors for their juicy goodness, and your hangover just allows you to get out for the day, be sure to head to the Barossa’s famous markets, where the likes of fresh produce, dairy, meat, wine and flowers are all available in fabulous abundance.

They’re the perfect place to find your ultimate hungover feed (and maybe a little more vino to send you on your way).

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is the southern equivalent of Kakadu: a giant, sprawling wilderness of natural beauty and unique Australian wildlife. You can easily make a day trip from Adelaide, being sure to head to Flinders Chase National Park, where an abundance of kangaroos, seals, wallabies, echidnas and more meander around the lush bushland.

Afterwards, head down to Vivonne Bay, rated one of the best beaches in the whole of the country, or head to some of the island’s breweries, distilleries or farms for a taste of local flavour!

Hahndorf

Hahndorf is one of those quirky little towns that steps outside of the ordinary Australian outpost. Why? Because of its vibrant German heritage! The town is replete with Deatsch music, food and beer, making for a unique getaway just a short drive from Adelaide.
