Frequently Asked Questions About Adelaide City Tours
How many days do you need in Adelaide?
Two days covers the city itself: the Central Market, North Terrace, the Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Oval and Glenelg. Add a third and fourth if you want the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Hahndorf or Kangaroo Island, which are the reasons most people come to South Australia.
What is there to do in Adelaide in one day?
Our City Tour ($88) covers the core: Adelaide Oval, St Peter’s Cathedral, the Botanic Gardens, the National Wine Centre, Victoria Square and the Central Market, finishing at Glenelg beach. Add Hahndorf ($99) if you want to get out of the city on the same day.
When is the best time to visit Adelaide?
March to May and September to November. Mild days, festival season in March, and the wine regions at their best either side of vintage. Summer is dry and can push past 40 degrees. Winter is cool and wet by South Australian standards, which still means mild by most others.
Is Adelaide walkable?
Very. The city was laid out on a grid inside a ring of parklands, and you can walk from the Central Market to North Terrace to the Botanic Gardens in half an hour. The tram to Glenelg beach is free within the city centre. You do not need a car until you leave town.
What is the Adelaide Central Market?
Adelaide Central Market is one of the largest undercover produce markets in the Southern Hemisphere and has been operating since 1869. It’s home to around 70 traders selling fresh produce, cheese, smallgoods, baked goods, coffee and other local products. The market is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so check the opening days if you’re planning a visit.
What is there to do in Hahndorf?
It is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, founded in 1839 in the Adelaide Hills, about 30 minutes from the city. German bakeries, pubs, a main street of nineteenth century buildings and craft shops. Our City and Hahndorf tour ($99) pairs it with the Adelaide sights.
McLaren Vale or the Barossa, which should I choose?
McLaren Vale is closer, about 45 minutes from Adelaide, sits by the coast and is known for Shiraz and Grenache with a modern, casual cellar door style. The Barossa is an hour north with older vines and more heritage. Our half-day McLaren Vale tour ($89) is the easiest wine day if time is short.
How long do the tours run?
Tour durations vary depending on the experience you choose. Most tours are either half-day or full-day experiences, with half-day tours generally running through the afternoon and full-day tours starting in the morning and finishing later in the day.
