Adelaide has rich history and culture, all in a smaller city compared to busier cities like Melbourne and Sydney. You can expect to spend time walking the streets and going to museums, galleries, and zoos.
After a few days in the city when you’ve seen most attractions, it’s time for you to venture out. There is so much to see within two hours of Adelaide city!
Barossa Valley
Just over an hour’s drive from Adelaide sits one of the most famous wine regions in the world. The Barossa Valley has over 150 wineries that produce delicious wines from red, white, sparkling, and fortified. But the best type of wine you can get from the Barossa is the shiraz!
Aside from a huge selection of wineries to go to, you can get a hot air balloon at sunrise across the Barossa.
Adelaide Hills
Adelaide Hills is about a 45 minute drive from Adelaide and is a beautiful picturesque area giving you a hint of country life.
Adelaide Hills is another wine region and has a cooler climate that makes pinot noir, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc. With many local wineries in the area, there are many more other places to visit when you’re in Adelaide Hills.
Hahndorf is a small town in Adelaide Hills and is a German town in Adelaide. The town has been run by the Holmes family since 1847, bringing traditional Bavarian food and drink to Adelaide.
McLaren Vale
Adelaide has some of the best wine regions in Australia, McLaren Vale being one of them. About a 40 minute drive from Adelaide will find you experiencing delicious wines in McLaren Vale.
Walk down Main Road to check out small shops, galleries, cafes, and more.
You can book a half day tour of McLaren Vale wineries and go to a few local wineries. You will also have the chance to explore the Main Road by yourself!
Kangaroo Island
Even though Kangaroo Island is just under a three hour drive, it’s worth the extra time getting there. Kangaroo Island is a nature and wildlife lover’s paradise. With a range of Australian wildlife to see, beautiful beaches, and fascinating rock formations. Nature lovers will find themselves at home on Kangaroo Island.
