The beauty of Adelaide’s skyline can be seen at its best from the viewpoint at Mt Lofty Summit. Soak in the panoramic view of the city and the coast alongside.

At 727m above sea level, this summit attracts over 350 000 visitors every year to view the breathtaking sights of the surrounding area.

After a short 20 minute drive out of the city, you will find yourself at Mt Lofty Summit. Here you’ll have an incredible view of Adelaide, with the city laid out before you at the foot of the mountain. With views like this you will feel like you’re on top of the world.

There is an impressive 16.5 m tall obelisk called Flinders Column on the lookout platform. You can read about the historical significance of this pillar on the interactive touch-screens of the modern visitors centre. You will also be able to learn more about the area and the nearby tourist attractions that have led to this mountain’s popularity.

If you’d prefer to see the sights while on the move, there are many scenic trails for hikers and cyclists. The 3.8km Waterfall Gully circuit is one of Adelaide’s most popular exercise routes because of its spectacular views and clear trail. Crafers, on the other hand, is the mountains newest trail. While it may be 4.5km, it only rises a total of 140m, which compared to Waterfall Gully’s 400m rise, makes for a much easier hike.

You’ll want to stay a little longer to enjoy the blend of a nice, hot cup of coffee at the Summit Restaurant and Café. If you’d rather have a bite to eat then you’ll have a great choice of delicious meals. Eat with a spectacular view through their floor to ceiling windows. This is the perfect place to watch the sun set over the city of Adelaide. Watch as the street lights below breathe life into the skyline.

Just below the summit of Mt Lofty lies the Cleland Wildlife National Park. Here you can roam freely among the kangaroos and wallabies, and meet emu. As if this wasn’t enough, Cleland Wildlife National Park also offers you the chance to cuddle a koala. This unique experience will become an Mt Lofty Summit unforgettable memory from your trip to Mt Lofty.

The Mt Lofty Summit lookout is a perfect way to spend a day enjoying the beauty of Adelaide. With delicious coffee, meals and amazing views, this is a destination not to be missed.
