Adelaide’s Glenelg Beach is one of Australia’s favourite city beaches, up there with the likes of Sydney’s Bondi and Perth’s Scarborough beaches. But why do locals and travellers alike love to flock to this sublime stretch of South Australian shoreline?

Swimming at Glenelg Beach

Well, because it has a wonderful vibe, for starters! There is always plenty of buzz and fun going on down at Glenelg, and it is a great beach for sun lover’s and families alike! There are also the likes of The Beach House and Playspace that make it the ultimate kid-friendly beach in all of Oz.

The beach itself is also incredibly beautiful, with plenty of gorgeous white sand, lovely waters and dazzling sunsets to rival any other western facing beach in the world.

So, now that you’ve checked out one of Australia’s exuberant and most gorgeous beaches, it’s time to check out some of the joys that await in and just outside of the wonderful town of Adelaide…

The Adelaide Fringe

Hailed internationally as one of the world’s greatest arts festivals, the Adelaide Fringe is also the biggest open air arts festival in the whole of the Southern Hemisphere! With hundreds of acts and artistic events occurring over a one month period, there is sure to be something for everyone, including a whole host of family-friendly shows to take the kids to.

The Adelaide Hills

There is nowhere in Australia most charming and quaint than the Adelaide Hills, a delightful respite from the bustle of the city just below. Pack your bags and head just outside of town for a weekend of family fun and German heritage in abundance.

Be sure to stay in the lovely town of Hahndorf, a place that still proudly boasts its jovial German heritage, with schnitzels, steins and strudels on the menu at just about every second restaurant. Next, head out to the Beerenberg Farm for strawberry picking and the Hahndorf Farm Barn where kids can meet some suuuper adorable farm animals!

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is a land that barely needs any introduction, but we’ll give it one anyway. This windswept testament to nature’s beauty is home to the almost unbelievable Flinders Chase National Park, where the surreal Remarkable Rocks and Australia’s most beloved animals reside.

It is also home to the amazing Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, another joyous occasion for kids and their animal-loving parents alike!
